Compass Physiotherapy offers a comprehensive Physio Bike Fit service for Cyclists, Triathletes and Mountain Bikers of all ages and abilities.
The bike is specifically fitted to the individual’s flexibility, stability, anatomical variations and limitations. Cyclists are often surprised how a few subtle changes can make their ride more comfortable, efficient and effective. Now, who doesn’t want that?
The assessment and subsequent fitting will typically last two hours. Most health funds will give benefits for these physiotherapy assessments and any subsequent consultations.
Riders can benefit from the expertise of our Physiotherapist Ann who is experienced in the assessment of bike positioning, and the assessment of individual biomechanics.
She is an avid competitive mountain biker who also has experience in both road and triathlon disciplines.
As an experienced musculoskeletal clinician, Ann has undertaken additional professional development with Trish Wisby-Roth (the Australian Cycling Team and Olympic Physiotherapist).
She is passionate about teaching and management in the area of Bike Set-Up and ‘Mastering Load’.
Most bike shops will be able to size you accurately for a bike based on some simple body measurements.
Bike mechanics often use software such as ‘Precision Fit’, ‘Retul’ or the guidelines provided by bike manufacturers to complete your fit.
In our experience if you have no past injury history or discomfort on the bike, if you’re not rapidly increasing your training volume or if you’re not trying to go from an upright commuter position to an aggressive aero time trail position all in one day (not advised!) the shop formula will work well for you.
We aim to offer an adjunct service to the cycling community foremostly targeting people who have pain on the bike and help them get back to doing what they love comfortably. We will work on biomechanical weaknesses on the bike e.g. weak glutes or poor lumbopelvic control and help them improve on these in order to optimise performance… AKA Get free speed!
Anyone suffering from discomfort on or off the bike will benefit. Commonly seen issues are lower back, knee or neck pain, pins and needles or numbness in the hands, feet, crutch/perineum and cramping especially on long rides.
When people have pain we often see patterns in riding styles, for example a rounded upper back, wandering knees, saddle sliding/tilting and straight elbows. We can help you to correct all of these!
