GROUP classes

Gross Motor Academy

The Gross Motor Academy is a structured, small-group program designed to support children in the development of essential gross motor skills required for participation in play, school, sport, and everyday activities. Sessions are delivered in age-based groups and target key areas of motor development, including strength, balance, coordination, motor planning, endurance, and body awareness.

The program utilises purposeful, developmentally appropriate movement activities to support skill acquisition and progression. Each group is facilitated by one of our highly skilled Exercise Physiologists or Physiotherapists, who provide individualised guidance and progression within a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

The small-group format allows children to observe and model the movements of their peers, which enhances skill learning and confidence. Group participation also supports social development, teamwork, and communication, while providing a natural stepping stone toward participation in group sports and other community-based physical activities. Activities are adapted as needed to meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring both challenge and success.

Purpose: The purpose of this group is to help children develop strong, confident movement skills so they can participate more easily in play, school activities, and sports. The group provides a positive, encouraging environment where children can build skills, confidence, and independence while having fun and moving their bodies.

Assessment: To be completed pre commencement for appropriate outcome obtainment (and at 3/6/12 monthly) - $166.99 (AEP) or $193.99 (Physio).

Structure: Weekly 1-hour sessions are delivered in age-based groups throughout the school term.

Bilbies (3–4 years): Designed for children with early gross motor delays or those requiring foundational skill development. Sessions focus on body awareness, balance, coordination, and motor planning for emerging skills such as running, jumping, climbing, and single-leg stance.

Wallabies (5–7 years): Suitable for children with basic gross motor abilities who require support to enhance coordination, balance, endurance, and movement quality for school and play participation. Sessions target skills including jumping sequences, hopping, galloping, ball skills (throwing and catching), and multi-step motor tasks.

Roos (8–12 years): Designed for children with established foundational gross motor skills who require targeted support to refine higher-level abilities for PE, sport, and community participation. Sessions focus on agility, strength, cardiovascular endurance, dynamic balance, advanced coordination, and confidence in sport-related activities.
